I watched Paolo Angeli play his ‘guitar’ in his one-man band at a Tiny Desk Concert and understood that in the beginning, Sound came before Music.
When Paolo was pushing his guitar to emit new sounds, I wonder if anyone told him that the guitar is not held or played like that? Or did the people around him encourage his curiosity and inventiveness?
Music was my first artistic endeavor, but I became shy when my Grandfather didn’t approve of girls playing guitar and had me sent to piano lessons, where not only music became boring, but a ruler to the knuckles corrected incorrect notes.
Thankfully we have new ways of encouraging children now.
