Art and the Artist

Con Christeson talks about ‘Art’ and the verb To Be. She says in many tribal cultures, there is no word for ART. Art is simply the way someone is.

It would mean that the artist is the art. That every trace of your conscious becoming is art. That ‘David’ was a consequence of Michelangelo’s real work. It would mean that any effort you put out there and put your name on, is just a symptom.

It also means that it doesn’t matter if it is ‘art’ that you do. You could be polishing shoes at the train station or be a flamboyant guy who charges $5 to get a photo taken with a broken polaroid camera on the streets of Panama.
