In her book the Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron mentions two creative tools that when practiced, make magical changes towards opening up the creative channels in your life. One tool is called Morning Pages, the other, Artist Dates.
And artist dates is a date with yourself. It is an hour a week to take yourself out of your everyday environment and do something alone. No kids, no dogs, no friends or family. Unplug yourself, turn the phone off. Take a walk on the beach or in the park. Sit in the coffee shop and read poetry. Visit an art gallery for inspiration. Spend an hour with your camera at a botanical garden. The artist dates frees up space in your heart and mind so that your creative angels can breath and whisper in your ear. You muse does not go away, she just needs a chance to speak.
